How to Borrow Resources

Books

• Join the Library
• Locate the book using the Library catalogue
• This will give you a call number e.g. 613.80835 DRU. The books are arranged in numeric and then alphabetical order on the shelves according to this number for example 000.000AAA is first and 999.999ZZZ is last on the shelves.
• If the Librarian is in:
  • Take the book to the desk and they will check it out for you.
• If the Librarian is not in:
  • Locate the barcode on the top right-hand side of the back cover. It will be D followed by 5 numbers e.g. D11111. This is important as it is the book’s unique identifier.
  • Fill in your full name, the book title and the barcode on the circulation sheet (this is located under the wall of leaflets).
• To return the book either hand it in to the Librarian or fill out the circulation sheet and leave the book in the tray.

Online Resources

Option 1:

• Find the article in the catalogue
• Click on access options
• Request this item in the catalogue through interlibrary loan
• You will then get a form to fill out with your name, phone and email address. The details of the resource will auto populate
• Fill it out and click submit
• Once the Librarian has obtained the resource, they will email to you

Option 2:

• Locate the resource you need via the catalogue, Google Scholar, Google or other search engine
• Write down as much detail as you can: e.g.  title; author; date; journal; volume; issue; organisation
• Either email the Librarian or hand the details to them
• The Librarian will locate the item for you and either email it to you or print a copy out to give to you or post

Please note:

• There is no guarantee the librarian can obtain a resource for you as it might be subject to licensing or copyright restrictions, under a publishers’ embargo, out of print or unavailable at the library or any of the partner libraries.
• The library is staffed by 1 part-time librarian so resources may take up to 2 weeks to arrive depending on work load and leave
• The librarian will contact you as soon as possible when the resource becomes available or if they are not able to source it
• When you request a resource if you are not already a library member you will automatically become enrolled in the library
